Caption: Different natural landscapes. Artwork showing the features of a wide range of different natural landscapes, including deserts, mountains, rivers, plains and forests. Clouds (upper centre) form over mountains, snow falls to form glaciers (upper left) and rain falls to swell rivers that erode the landscape, carrying sediment to the sea to form deltas (lower right). The sea erodes coastal areas to form beaches (lower centre) and cliffs (lower left). Areas with a high rainfall support vegetation such as grass and forests, while areas with little rainfall, such as deserts (yellow), are arid and barren. Other desert features include salt pans (white) and flat-topped erosion structures called mesas.
