Caption: Himalayas. View along the Himalayan Mountains, as seen from an orbiting Space Shuttle. This view is looking toward the west. The line of the Himalayas is marked by snow on the highest peaks (white). The snow is in the country of Nepal, a small state squeezed between the low-lying Ganges Plain in India (left) and the highland Tibetan Plateau of China (brown tones, right). Mount Everest, at 8848 metres the highest peak on Earth, is located near bottom centre. This photograph was taken during Shuttle Mission 41-G of 5-13 October 1984.
