Caption: Anti-Atlas mountains. Coloured composite satellite image of the Anti-Atlas mountain range in Morocco. This range is part of the Atlas Mountains of northwestern Africa, which are an extension of the European Alps. The Atlas range contains fertile pastures and valleys, and dense forests of cedar, pine, oak and cork. The largely untapped mineral resources of the region include deposits of zinc, iron, lead, silver and gold, as well as reserves of petroleum. This image was taken using detectors sensitive to infrared, shortwave infrared and red wavelengths of light. Photographed by the Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus instrument on the NASA/US Geological Survey satellite Landsat 7.
