Caption: Himalayas from space. Oblique view from the ISS (International Space Station) of a 130-kilometre- wide stretch of the Himalayas. Mount Everest is at upper centre. Makalu is the mountain at top left. This view looks south, with the land in the lower frame in Tibet, and the land beyond Everest in Nepal. The ISS orbits 350 kilometres above the Earth, allowing unique views like this that cannot be taken by other satellites or by airplanes. Photographed on 28 January 2004.
