Mount Everest, satellite image. North is at top. Mount Everest is the world's highest peak (8848 metres). The summit peak forms a pyramidal shape just above and right of centre. The dark blue triangle is partially formed by the shadow cast by Mount Everest. Numerous glaciers (grey) and landscapes of barren rock (brown) surround the snow-capped peaks (white). Mount Everest lies on the border between Nepal (bottom) and China (top). Image data obtained on 17 November 1992.
