Caption: K2 mountain, Space Shuttle image. K2 is the second highest mountain in the world, reaching a height of 8611 metres above sea level. It sits in the Karakoram mountain range on the border between Pakistan and China. Numerous glaciers (grey lines) and landscapes of barren rock (brown) surround the snow-capped peaks (white). This image was taken using a handheld 70mm camera by a crew member on board Space Shuttle Atlantis during mission STS-106, which took place on 8th-20th September 2000.
