Caption: Gorge vegetation. Aerial photograph of a gorge in the Purnululu (Bungle Bungle) National Park, Australia. The surrounding arid landscape is characterised by sparse vegetation. The lush vegetation, which includes palms, found at the valley floor is due to the high level of water retention within the gorge. This structure allows a micro-climate to exist, which retains enough moisture for plant life to exist.
