Caption: Glen Canyon, USA, satellite image. North is at top. Glen Canyon (mostly across bottom) has been carved from the surrounding desert rocks (light brown) by the Colorado River. Patches of vegetation (green) are also seen. The damming of the river has formed Lake Powell (top right). This lake is on the border between Utah (to the north) and Arizona (to the south), and is the second- largest man-made reservoir in the USA. Image data obtained on 22 June 1991.
