River Loire. SPOT-1 satellite view of part of the River Loire, France. The river is seen very clearly in black, meandering along its flood plain. Much of the flood plain has large fields, taking advantage of the very fertile soils. These field patterns extend over most of the frame; the Loire Valley is one of France's most important agricultural zones. The pale blue patch at lower left is the city of Tours; just right of this are dull olive green fields denoting the vineyards of Vouvray (north bank) and Montlouis (south bank). The city of Blois is at top right. SPOT-1 is a French Earth observation satellite.
