Caption: Afsluitdijk dike. This barrier dike is 32 kilometres long and 90 metres wide. It was constructed between 1927 and 1933 and separates the Zuiderzee inland sea (right) from the North Sea (left). This turned the Zuiderzee into a freshwater lake, known today as the IJsselmeer.
