Caption: Sahara Desert in Chad seen from space. A sandstorm is seen at upper centre (white) over the Djourab region. The winds in this region blow predominantly towards the south-west, towards the horizon in this image. They are channelled between two highland areas (dark), the Tibesti Mountains (centre right) and the Ennedi Massif (centre left). These winds have created large streak features on the plains. The Tibesti Mountains are the highest point in the Sahara Desert. This photograph was taken by the space shuttle Discovery during mission STS-026 in October 1988.
