Caption: Desert landscape, Egypt, infrared satellite image. North is at top. The landscape varies from areas of sand dunes (yellow) aligned in lines with the prevailing wind, to more rocky areas (brown) that are eroded by dry river channels (wadis). This is part of Egypt's Western Desert, itself part of the Sahara Desert. The area lies east of El Qasr. This 180-kilometre-wide image was taken on 12 November 1972, in visible and infrared wavelengths, with the Multispectral Scanner (MSS) sensor on NASA's Landsat 1 satellite.
