Caption: Temperate rainforest. View of a rainforest canopy on a hillside, which includes the silver tree fern Cyathea dealbata. The silver tree fern or "ponga" is a national symbol of New Zealand. It's silvery fronds grow as long as 4 metres, and this tree fern can reach 10 metres in height. Plants like these formed the first forests over 300 million years ago, before flowering plants evolved. Photographed on the Coromandel Peninsula, New Zealand.
