Caption: Aspens and birches. Aspen trees Populus tremula (yellow) and birches Betula pendula in autumn. The aspen is a species of poplar, also named the trembling aspen, so called because it appears to tremble in the wind. Its rounded leaves have flattened stalks, allowing the blades to flutter in the slightest breeze. Photographed in British Columbia, Canada.
