Caption: Galapagos Islands. Coloured SPOT satellite view of part of the Galapagos Islands in the Pacific Ocean. The Galapagos group is volcanic, as seen by the three volcanoes on Isla Isabella (centre) and the single cone on Fernandino Island (lower left). Patterns of past lava flows are very clearly seen on the islands. Bright red tones around the summit of the volcanoes represent vegetation. This image is a mosaic of four frames gathered by the French SPOT-1 Earth observation satellite.
