Caption: Eleuthera Island, Bahamas. Coloured SPOT-1 satel- lite image of Eleuthera Island in the Bahamas chain. Photographed in the infrared colour range, green vegetation is coloured red. North is at top. Eleuthera is thickly vegetated (red), with about 75% of the island seen in this frame (it stretches further north). Grey settlements are at Rock Sound (lower right, in enclosed bay) and Tarpum Bay (at centre right). The Atlantic Ocean is at far right. At lower left is Exuma Sound, water deeper than 1000 metres. Submerged sand patterns (centre left) about 10 metres deep are seen on the Great Bahama Bank. Image by French SPOT-1, taken in April.
