Caption: The strait of Gibraltar, the gate between the Atlantic Ocean (bottom) and the Mediterranean Sea, photographed from the orbiting space shuttle Challenger (Mission 41-G, 5-13 October, 1984). Southern Spain & parts of Portugal are visible (left); the curved bay on Spain's Atlantic coast is the Gulf of Cadiz. To the south of the strait (right) is Morocco, where the city of Tangier is visible as a lighter region on the left of the tip of the peninsula. The city of Malaga, on Spain's Costa del Sol, appears in a similar fashion.
