Caption: Ancient stone jars in the Plain of Jars, Laos. These structures are thought to date from between around 1,500 to 2,000 years ago. There are thousands of such jars scattered across sites in the Xieng Khouang plain in western Laos. Their origin is still debated, though a popular theory is that they were used as urns or burial chambers at some point, since human remains have been excavated from the sites.
