Caption: Commercial forestry. View across large log booms and a sorting area in a lake. This is where logs are stored on the water near a sawmill before use. The logs arrive at the booms by road or river, and are sorted into sizes and grades. Each boom holds a different type of log. This makes cutting logs at the sawmill a more efficient process; large batches of logs of similar sizes and types of wood may be cut in a continuous process. Photographed at Vancouver Island, Canada.
