Caption: Cleared forest. Dead wood and tree stumps after the clearing of part of a plantation. A plantation is an area where trees are cultivated for use in the logging industry. The pink flowers are rosebay willowherb (Chamerion angustifolium), also known as fireweed because it is one of the first plants to grow after an area is cleared by fire or other events, such as logging. Photographed in September in the Strath Tirry valley, Sutherland county, in the Highland region of Scotland.
