Caption: Sheep shearing. Sheep raised for wool are sheared (their coats are removed) once in the spring or summer in temperate regions. In warmer climates they may be sheared twice a year. The fleece is cut close to the skin, usually with mechanical shears, and is taken off in one piece by experienced shearers.
