Caption: Desert wild flowers. View of a mixed community of desert wild flowers and cacti including brittlebush, Encilia farinosa, and teddy bear cholla, Opuntia bigelovii. Brittlebush, in the foreground, has yellow flowers. Teddy bear cholla, the dark stemmed cacti in the background, has spines which stick into animals as they brush past. If the spines fall onto the earth, they can grow into new cacti. The red flowers of chuparosa, Justicia californica, can also be seen. Photographed in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, California.
