Caption: Hawaiian coffee plantations, composite aerial photograph. This part of the Hawaiian island of Kauai, shows agricultural fields growing coffee beans. The grid-like tracks are dirt roads used to transport the beans. The coffee grown in Hawaii is a species of arabica bean known as Kona. The fertile volcanic soil and relatively low annual production results in a coffee that is prized by coffee connoisseurs. The colour of the fields indicates the ripeness of the coffee. Images such as this allow farmers to dictate when to harvest different fields. Photographed by an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV).
