Caption: Coffee fruits on a branch of a coffee plant (Coffea sp.). Clusters of fruits attach to the woody branches by very short stems. The fruits are pale green when they first develop and become deep crimson when they are fully ripe and ready for picking. The fruits develop over six or seven months following the flowering of fragrant white blooms that last for only a few days. Ripe fruits typically contain two seeds, the coffee beans, surrounded by sweet pulp. The beans are dried before being used commercially in the production of coffee.
