Caption: Cultivation of sunflowers Helianthus annuus in France. They are grown for the seeds and for the oil obtained from the seeds. Flour can also be made from the kernels. Sunflowers can be grown from the equator to as far north as 55 degrees north and can even stand a small amount of frost. They have efficient root systems which enables them to grow on poor, dry soils.
