Caption: MODEL RELEASED. Onion harvest. Farmer stacking trays of harvested onions, Allium cepa, in this case on an organic farm. Onions are grown for their underground bulbs which can be eaten raw or cooked. They are a good source of vitamin B2 (riboflavin) and calcium. The crop is widely grown in temperate and subtropical regions around the world. Organic farms use natural methods to fertilise crops and keep pests under control. Although this reduces crop yields, the farm's produce has no chemical residues on it. Photographed in Massachusetts, USA.
