Caption: Flax. Field of flax plants (Linum usitatissimum) in flower. Flax is a versatile crop grown throughout temperate climates. The plant fibres are made into linen fabric and linoleum. The seeds, linseed, are pressed to obtain linseed oil, which is used in paints and varnishes. The remaining parts of the seeds are used as an animal feed. Flax flowers over a long period in the summer.
