Hydroponic cultivation. Tobacco seedlings (Nicotiana sp.) being grown in a commercial greenhouse or glasshouse. The plants are being grown hydroponically (without soil), and receive nutrients from their water supply. These plants may later be transplanted outside. Greenhouses allow careful control of growing conditions. Within the greenhouse, plants are protected from weather and diseases. Light intensity, temperature and moisture levels can also be maintained at optimum levels. Photographed in Kentucky, USA.
