Caption: Land reclamation in Holland. False-colour radar image of part of Flevoland, a polder in the Netherlands. The colours in this image were derived from radar reflectivity of the surface in microwave wavelengths. Open water appears as black. The fields in this frame are bare, and are seen in shades of blue according to their surface roughness. At far right is an old forest, shown in red tones. The town of Harderwijk is seen in white on the right bank of the Veluwemeer drainage canal (right of centre). In the canal may be seen some barges (white spots). The data for this image were gathered by the SIR-C/X-SAR radar instrument flown on Shuttle Mission STS-59 of 9-20 April 1994.
