Caption: Spreading lime on field. Terra-Gator being used to spread lime on a field of corn stubble after the autumn harvest. Lime (the white cloud) consists of calcium compounds (such as calcium hydroxide), and is used to reduce soil acidity and restore balance to soils deficient in lime after crop harvesting. Corn, also called maize (Zea mays) is a crop used for flour, oil and animal feed. This truck is a Terra-Gator 1664, a model introduced in 1984. Terra-Gators, made by the AGCO Corporation, are specialised farming trucks used to spread liquids or solids over fields. Photographed in Illinois, USA.
