Caption: Cloud forest orchid (Sobralia dichotoma). This is one of the largest of the orchids. The orchids (Orchidaceae) are one of the most diverse families of flowering plants. There are over 20,000 species worldwide. Some grow in the ground while others (epiphytes) grow on supports such as trees, obtaining their nutrition through aerial roots. Photographed in the Urubamba Valley, Peru.
