Caption: False-colour satellite image of Abu Dhabi showing land reclamation works underway in 1984. Abu Dhabi is the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The city occupies the island at centre, its pattern of roads clearly seen. The airport is seen as the broad red linear patch right of centre. In this image, made from Landsat data in 1984, land reclamation projects have produced large islands, especially that just below the main city. Extensive port facilities have been completed on the main island, and a large industrial zone has been established on the mainland at bottom right. Compare with earlier image E780/293, taken in 1972.
