Caption: Hong Kong. SPOT satellite image of Hong Kong, seen from space. The image approximates to true colours. North is at top. At lower centre is Hong Kong Island with its north shore highly urbanised with buildings (grey). It is separated from the mainland by Victoria Harbour. On the mainland Kow- loon city faces Hong Kong Island, with Kai Tak airport runway protruding into the sea. At upper centre are mountains of the New Territories, with Shenzhen city at top left. The British colony of Hong Kong, which reverts to Chinese rule in 1997, occupies the whole frame south of Shenzhen. Image by a French SPOT satellite, taken in February.
