Caption: Singapore. Near true colour SPOT satellite image of Singapore. North is at the top. Singapore city lies on the centre of the south coast of the country's main island (Singapore Island). The island is separated from Malaysia (top) by the narrow Johor Strait. A bridge can be seen running across the Strait. To the south of the island is the major shipping route Singapore Strait, seen here dotted with ships. Most of the island's vegetation has been cleared to make way for urban development, but a small area of rainforest (dark green) remains in the centre. Image data gathered by one of the French SPOT satellites.
