Moscow. Near true colour SPOT satellite image of Moscow, capital and largest city of Russia. North is towards the top. The Kremlin is located in the centre of the city, just north of the large loop in the River Moskva, which is crossed by numerous bridges. Surrounding the Kremlin is a system of concentric boulevards intersected by streets radiating outwards. The runways of an airport can be seen upper left of centre. Clearly visible in the outer suburbs are Moscow's "micro-regions", clusters of high-rise apartment blocks designed to meet the city's housing needs. Image data gathered by one of the French SPOT satellites.
