Caption: Bangkok. Infrared satellite image of Bangkok (upper centre), capital of Thailand. North is towards the top. Vegetation appears red, water blue/black, urban areas blue/grey and bare ground white. Running south through the city is the Chao Phraya River, used for trade and transport. The river runs into the Bight of Bangkok which opens into the Gulf of Thailand at lower centre/right. Around Bangkok are highly fertile lowland plains. At lower left is the heavily forested Bilauktaung Mountain Range on the Malay Peninsula. Image taken by an American Landsat satellite in December 1985. Image area: 180 by 190 kms.
