Caption: Baghdad, Iraq, during the invasion by coalition forces in spring 2003. The monument to the Unknown Soldier is just right of centre. The thick plume of smoke down centre is thought to issue from a pool of oil deliberately ignited to provide a smokescreen against aerial attacks. Photographed by the QuickBird satellite on 1st April 2003.
