Singapore and surroundings, satellite image. North is towards top. Clouds are white, water is blue, vegetation is green and urban areas are pink. The city-state of Singapore is the island at centre: 42 kilometres across and 23 kilometres wide. The city centre is on the south central part of the coast. The airport (Changi International) is on the island's eastern tip (far right). The island is separated from mainland Malaysia (across top) by the Strait of Johor. The Strait of Singapore (wider, across bottom) separates it from Batam, an Indonesian island. The mouth of the Johor River is at upper right. Taken by the Landsat 7 satellite in 2000, combining infrared and visible light.
