Caption: Orchid flowers (Eria longifolia, formerly grouped with Ascidieria). The small flowers form a spiral pattern around the stem. Some of the Eria orchids have the woolly hairs seen on the stem and flowers of this orchid. The Eria orchids are distributed widely, from Australia and New Zealand, through Indonesia north to China and west to India. They are not often cultivated, as the flowers are small and not suitable as ornamental flowers. There are more than 30,000 species of orchids worldwide.
