Caption: Giant orchid flowers (Barlia robertiana). Barlia orchids are found around the Mediterranean. These flowers are part of a flower cluster that can be up to 20 centimetres long, and the whole plant can be nearly a metre tall. The pink/white part of the flowers is the lip, a specialised structure to attract pollinators. There are more than 30,000 species of orchids worldwide, many of which are grown as ornamental flowers.
