Caption: Southern marsh orchid (Dactylorhiza praetermissa). This orchid grows in marshes and damp meadows in Europe, mostly in southern Europe. It produces dense clusters of small flowers. Two clusters are seen here. As this orchid grows in the ground, it is called a terrestrial orchid. There are more than 30,000 species of orchids worldwide, many of which are grown as ornamental flowers.
