The lip is a specialised petal that attracts pollinators to the flower. This orchid is found in the tropics from Central America to northern South America. It is found growing in variety of habitats, on trees, rocks and the ground. There are more than 30,000 species of orchids worldwide, many of which are grown as ornamental flowers.
