Caption

A variety of rubbish washed ashore on the island of Danskoya, Svalbard. The rubbish, mainly plastics and fishing nets, comes ashore from the north Atlantic Ocean. This illustrates the global nature of sea pollution, Svalbard being a remote group of islands some 800km north of Norway. The fishing nets are a major threat to marine wildlife, especially seals. The logs seen here have mostly floated from the timber production areas of Siberia.
