Caption: Orchid flowers (Gomphichis macbridei). Each of the flowers has a specialised petal called the lip (here yellow). This attracts pollinators to the flowers. This orchid is found in the cloud forests high in the Andes mountains of South America. It is a terrestrial orchid (one that grows in the ground). There are more than 30,000 species of orchids worldwide, many of which are grown as ornamental flowers.
