This is a specialised petal that attracts pollinators to the flower. This is a coastal orchid, found in Asia from South-East Asia eastwards to New Guinea. It is an epiphytic orchids (one that grows in trees). The entire plant can grow to enormous sizes. This specimen is from the Philippines. There are more than 30,000 species of orchids worldwide, many of which are grown as ornamental flowers.
