Caption: Orchid flower (Lycaste cruenta). The flower has three sepals (green), with an inner ring of petals (yellow) surrounding the reproductive parts. This orchid is found in the cooler mountain regions of Central America. It can be epiphytic (growing on trees) or lithophytic (growing on rocks). There are more than 30,000 species of orchids worldwide, many of which are grown as ornamental flowers.
