Caption: Orchid flower (Neomoorea irrorata). The butterfly- shaped petal is a specialised structure called the lip. It attracts pollinators to the flower. The flowers are produced in clusters of 10-25. This orchid is found in the cloud forests of Panama and Colombia. It is an epiphytic orchid (one that grows in trees). There are more than 30,000 species of orchids worldwide, many of which are grown as ornamental flowers.
