Caption: Orchid flower (Nidemea boothii). There are three long sepals curling backwards, and three smaller central petals. The longer petal (lower left) is the lip, a specialised structure that attracts pollinators to the flower. This orchid is found in the rainforests of Central America. It is an epiphytic orchid (one that grows in trees). There are more than 30,000 species of orchids worldwide, many of which are grown as ornamental flowers.
