Caption: Mammoth bone hut being excavated by archaeologists near the village of Mezhyrich, Ukraine. The mammoth bones are seen around the archeologists and have been numbered. More bones are being carefully dug out of the ground. This site was discovered in 1965. Excavations led to the discovery of huts that had been built from mammoth bones. The huts date back 15,000 years, and are among the earliest known prehistoric shelters. Photographed in August 1966.
