Caption: Ancient Persian carvings. Persian symbols carved onto a stone pillar, which was found in the ruined city of Persepolis, situated in modern day Iran. The city was built by Darius I, who reigned from 522-486 BC, as a ceremonial capital. It was destroyed by Alexander the Great in 330 BC.
